Listening Event: Paul Walde’s “Alaska Variations” + Chris Watson’s “Namib”
double-header, screening two works recording the natural world
In celebration of the closing of the exhibition “Alaska Variations” by Paul Walde, Indexical screens the entirety of Walde’s work at 2pm on the closing weekend. Walde’s work can be thought of as a “field recording” in the sense that it is a series of processes to derive sonic gestures from the natural environment, dictated in part by the visual and floral form of the landscape. This will be followed by a second-chance listening of Chris Watson’s “Namib,” which takes a different—fully auditory—approach to field recording, collaging sounds built from the natural soundscape.
